CIBC: First National Bank in Canada to Offer Mobile Banking

I thought that this would take awhile to catch on in Canada, but CIBC has jumped on it and made it happen!

I thought that Mobile Banking would take awhile to be offered in Canada. We tend to be conservative in new approaches, but I guess with everyone getting “An App For That”, it only made sense to do a banking app. There is a huge number of people that are already familiar with online banking, so I guess the step to mobile banking wasn’t such a big leap as its just like surfing on your mobile, but its now an app designated for it! I actually expected a bank like TD Canada Trust or RBC or BMO to do it first, so CIBC has really surprised me but none-the-less, impressed me!

Demand for Mobile Financial Services Grows

Are users taking the leap and jumping to do their banking on their cells? Really?

I’m all for doing pretty much everything on my cell phone. Its my right hand. But I think I would be wary to do my banking through my cell. Primarily because it is so much easier to lose than my laptop! I’m sure there are security measures put into place in countries that already actively do this, but I’m still a little apprehensive about it. However,  I am completely on board with the idea of coupons and tickets being stored in our cells and feel that maybe that may be a very good baby-step for Canadians into figuring the mobile banking stuff — or at least just getting comfortable with it. I have no doubt it WILL happen for us eventually as it has in many Asian countries, but I think its something that still needs to be dealt with great caution.

Something to Make Developing iPhone Apps Easier!

Its still being developed, but its getting there. iProcessing may make the development of iApps easier now.

Its still “Beta” and they point out that they aren’t even sure that App Store will approve submissions, but its a start and open for tweaking. With so much demand from businesses and consumers alike to have “an app for that”, and not nearly enough devs that know how to make them, it just may be worth a try!

A Quick Look at Mobile Web Designs

Designing for Mobile isn’t exactly like designing for web.

It requires simplification like never before. Where before we had to worry about what internet browser a user was surfing on, now we have to target actual cell phones as not all allow similar viewing. This article explores some nice points about some basic principals and ideas for this ever growing industry.

Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile is a super fun and exciting brand — their look and feel changes with each of their campaigns and this was a big challenge in designing their site! They needed a site that would easily facilitate their ever-changing look through a CMS, but not look CMS driven. This was done on their home page and content pages by allowing images to bleed into an area that looked like it was part of the background, but was actually part of the images. A great solution that allowed for flexibility and ease of use. Other features that were designed for the site were tools that helped users decide which plans and phones were best suited for them based on their “Help Me Decide” user tool. Another great feature was a 360˚ interactive tool for each phone they offered that allowed users to explore the phone’s features in more detail and then follow with plans that went with that particular phone.

The resulting site was fun to view and interact with for users, but also easily updatable for the client.

This version of the site is no longer available online.
